Rich history – a melting pot of nations/multiculturalism

This fourth biggest Polish city (after Warsaw, Kraków and Łódź) draws hundreds of tourists every year – because of its rich and long history. In the last millennium Wrocław belonged to Germany, The Kingdom of Bohemia (today's Czech Republic), Prussia (today's Austria) and Poland. Wrocław – also known as Polish Venice – is located on the Oder River as well as on 12 little islands. There are 112 bridges in the city with the most beautiful ones located in the Ostrów Tumski area, a historic cradle of the town inhabited by the Ślężanie tribe back in the Middle Ages. The Japanese Garden is a real horticultural gem and a real treat for all those who love parks and the greenery.

UEFA Euro 2012™

The year 2012 marks an international sporting event held in Wrocław – the city is hosting the Finals of the European Football Championships UEFA Euro 2012™. Because of this world-famous event, our dynamically developing city has seen a true investment boom: new roads, bridges, ring roads and hotels have been built. The heart of all these sport events in June 2012 is a newly open sports stadium in Maślice, seating over 40 thousand people.

The old market square (Rynek) in Wrocław with its surrounding Old Town is often called the largest club in Central Europe. The lively city centre abounds in bars, pubs, clubs and discos. Many places are open until the last guest has left which – particularly at weekends – makes you think that our city never sleeps. Wrocław's friendliness and openness draws hundreds of tourists.
